Spring Break Horse Camp at Bowers Farm: Day 3 Adventures!
Today was another exciting day at Bowers Farm, filled with hands-on learning, farm chores, and lots of fun! The campers dove headfirst into a range of activities that not only taught them valuable skills but also gave them a chance to bond with the animals and their fellow campers. Here’s a look at what went down on Day 3 of our Spring Break Horse Camp:
Morning Fun with Farm Animals & Chores
The day started bright and early, with campers getting their hands dirty doing some farm chores. They fed the animals, helped clean the barns, and learned the ins and outs of taking care of our furry friends. The campers loved interacting with the animals, and it was great to see them so engaged in these important, yet often overlooked, aspects of farm life.
Learning All the Different Parts of the Horse and Why It's Important
Next up, the campers dived into learning about the different parts of the horse. They explored the anatomy of the horse, from the mane to the hooves, and discovered why each part plays such a vital role in the horse's health and performance. They also learned how understanding these parts helps in better horse care, as well as in making riding safer and more effective. Whether it’s knowing the difference between the withers and the girth or understanding how the hooves impact a horse’s movement, the campers gained a deeper appreciation for their equine partners.
Sewing Stuffed Animal Horses: Crafting with Care
After all that hard work, it was time for a creative break! Campers spent some time sewing their very own stuffed animal horses. This homesteading activity not only brought out their inner crafters but also gave them a chance to develop some fine motor skills. As the campers stitched, they shared stories and laughter, creating lasting memories with every little stitch. Their pride was evident as they showed off their finished plush ponies!
Team Building Fun in the Forest: Low Ropes & Log Challenge
In the afternoon, we headed into the forest for some team-building challenges. The low ropes course got everyone thinking strategically and working together to overcome obstacles. The real test came with the log challenge, where campers had to help each other move from one side of the log to the other, all while maintaining balance and communication. It was inspiring to watch how the group pulled together and supported each other to complete the challenge. Teamwork was definitely the theme of the day!
Riding the Horses in a Western Saddle
To wrap up the day, but everyone’s favorite part of the day…campers enjoyed some riding time in a Western saddle. After learning about horse care and the anatomy of their equine partners, it was time to put that knowledge into action! The campers spent time bonding with the ponies, guiding them through trails and practicing their riding skills. Riding in a Western saddle is all about comfort and control, and it was wonderful to see the campers gain confidence as they rode and connected with their horses.
